On discovering Morfik I felt I could finally start utilizing the Web to its full extent
With 25 years experience in the ICT sector, Jan Bakuwel has dedicated his professional skills to a better, healthier planet. After many years working as a Senior Software Engineer for Greenpeace International in Amsterdam, Jan recently emigrated to New Zealand’s beautiful Waiheke Island with his family, working as an ICT contractor for charities and small businesses while volunteering for the local Transition Towns initiative, which aims to prepare local communities for upcoming troubles associated with Peak Oil and Climate Change.
A long time Delphi developer, Jan realized Morfik’s WebOS AppsBuilder was the perfect software solution to address the gaps in his web programming knowledge. “Coming from an integrated visual design, development, and debug environment, it seemed tiresome learning HTML/JavaScript/PHP/Perl and all that jazz to develop rich web applications,” he explains. “On discovering Morfik I felt I could finally start utilizing the web to its full extent whilst still applying proper software engineering principles - using a language with strong typing, a compiler that finds the bugs I would otherwise discover at runtime, and so forth.”
Morfik enables Jan to build database-driven rich GUI applications simply, quickly, and effectively. Where he would once have created similar web applications with LAMP - requiring extensive human resources to design, build, and maintain the site - Morfik allows him to outsource these factors, freeing him up to concentrate on problem domains rather than focusing on tedious details such as browser version and model dependencies.
Jan currently uses Morfik to prototype rich data-driven GUI applications and deploy them on the web for Transition Towns. He and his colleagues are using Morfik’s highly integrative features alongside other web-based CMS frameworks to create a proper visual RAD development environment, an aspect of Morfik he values extremely highly. “Anyone in the business of developing rich and dynamic user interfaces on the web that have the ability to evolve and expand will do themselves a favor by taking the time to evaluate Morfik,” Jan enthuses. “I can see where Morfik’s creators are going with the application and, for me, the development can’t happen fast enough!”
